‘Distraught’ Boston family find snake under their sofa
It’s the stuff of nightmares… coming home and finding a snake staring up at you from under your sofa.
But that became reality for one ‘distraught’ family on Monday after they discovered a metre-long Florida kingsnake in their Boston home.
Although non-venomous, these imposing reptiles can grow up to 6 feet in height and are certainly capable of scaring a family that chances upon one.
Thankfully, Stickney’s Ark Wildlife and Dinosaur Park came to the rescue.
“We received a call from a distraught lady saying there was a snake under her sofa,” the wildlife park posted on social media.
“Jamie went off to investigate to find the whole family outside their house.
“After lifting up the sofa he was surprised to find a metre long Florida kingsnake - definitely not a Lincolnshire native - the poor little snake was very cold.”
The reptile - believed to be an escaped pet - was taken back to Ark, who have received similar call-outs before, to be warmed up and health checked..
“We occasionally receive calls asking to remove a snake from someone's home,” they added.
“In the past we've rescued a corn snake (a species from North America, an escaped pet) from a conservatory.
“Often it's just a native grass snake someone has seen in there garden that just needs to be left alone.”
Ark are now hoping to hear from the owner looking to be reunited with their kingsnake.
If you are the owner you can email info@arkwildlifepark.co.uk, but proof of ownership will be needed.
“In the mean time he's safe and well and if no owner can be found he'll stay at the Ark,” the statement added.
“Never a dull day.”
