Boston man fined £1,000 after being caught drink-driving in Kirton
A motorist who appeared to be speeding through a South Lincolnshire village was found to be drink-driving at more than twice the limit.
Bradley Cooke, 28, attracted the attention of police when he rounded a corner near the Black Bull pub on London Road in Kirton “at speed” at around midnight on May 15.
Boston Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday (June 4), that the police turned round and caught up with the BMW 1 Series car on the A16.
Prosecutor Marie Stace said: “As Mr Cooke got out of the car, he accidentally pressed the accelerator which revved the engine.”
Cooke failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. He later gave an evidential sample of 89 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35.
Police found a small amount of cocaine on the defendant during a search. Cooke refused to give a blood sample for analysis.
At court he pleaded guilty to drink-driving, failing to provide a sample and possession of a Class A drug.
Solicitor Carrie Simpson, mitigating, said the whole experience had been a “wake-up call” for her client, who had been drinking too much and using drugs recreationally and has since sought help.
Cooke did not like giving blood and was ashamed at being in court, Miss Simpson added.
Cooke, of Davey Close, Boston, was disqualified from driving for 28 months, which can be reduced by 28 weeks with completion of a drink-driver rehabilitation course. He was also fined £1,000 and told to pay £400 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
There was no separate penalty for the drug offence.
