Indoor market and community hub among plans for former department store building in Boston

A closed department store is considering new uses which could ‘breathe new life into this space’.

The Rebos store in Boston, which previously traded as Oldrids, closed in October, but work has been going on to transform the inside of the three-storey property on Strait Bargate.

But now owners have put forward a series of ideas for the building’s future, including an indoor marketplace, multi-use development and community hub.

“This iconic space has long been a cornerstone of our community, and we are excited about the future of the site,” a statement on the Rebos Facebook page announced this morning.

“We are also working with the (Boston Borough) council, and we appreciate their ongoing support.

“While works are to be finalised yet, we are exploring several potential new uses that could breathe new life into this space, benefiting the entire community.

Possible options include transforming the site into a multi-use development, community hub, marketplace for vendors etc, which could provide a variety of services and opportunities, such as leisure and and kidsplay, food, drink, entertainment, educational facilities etc.”

Rebos confirmed that building works have been going on since October to ‘redefine the space and allow smaller marketplace spaces to be rented’.

“As these plans evolve, we will continue to engage with the community to ensure that the future use of the space reflects the needs and desires of our residents,” the statement added.

“We invite you to share your thoughts and ideas with us as we move forward.”
