Man serving time for GBH and robbery absconds from open prison near Boston
Police are searching for a man who has absconded from an open prison.
Members of the public are advised not to approach 57-year-old James Joseph Smyth, who is serving a sentence for GBH and robbery.
He failed to return to North Sea Camp at Freiston, near Boston, at 2pm on Tuesday, April 30, following an agreed temporary release.
He was last seen just after 7.30am that morning, walking along the river in the direction of York city centre.
“He is described as white, 6ft,1in, of slim build, around 64kg,” a Lincolnshire Police statement read.
“He has long grey-brown hair (occasionally worn in a top knot), a long grey beard and moustache, and green eyes.
“He has a scar on his nose and left eye lid.
“He also has a distinctive tattoo on his left wrist with the words ‘Daniel’ and ‘Tracey’, as well as a tattoo of a devil on his right shoulder.
“He sometimes wears glasses.”
Detective Inspector Mel Rooke said: “We are appealing for help to locate James Joseph Smyth who is wanted for absconding from North Sea Camp yesterday evening.
“He is known to have connections with the Leeds, West Yorkshire, area.”
Anyone with information as to his current whereabouts is asked to contact police immediately.
