RSPB Frampton Marsh welcomes new mobility scooters and wheelchair to help site be more accessible
A nature reserve is set to become more inclusive as it welcomes new equipment to its site.
Thanks to thousands of pounds from donors, RSPB Frampton Marsh has introduced two free-to-hire mobility scooters and a wheelchair for visitors.
The additions come as part of the reserve’s mission to be more accessible which has seen ramps, toilets and upgrades to its hides installed to ensure everyone can enjoy the views.
RSPB’s South Lincolnshire group raised £3840 for the cause, which included match funding from the Aviva Save Our Wild Isles Community Fund.
Additionally, the Sunshine Mobility Scooters in Boston gifted the wheelchair.
Chris Andrews, visitor experience manager at the marsh said: “The green space provided by the reserve is unrivalled in the area, so it’s important for us to provide as many opportunities as possible for people who may ordinarily have struggled to access nature to now do so.
“These scooters will allow many more people to fully explore the wildlife and landscapes at RSPB Frampton Marsh.”
The new equipment is ideal for use along the two-and-a-half miles of evenly paved paths, benches with viewpoints over the lagoons have also been placed throughout the trail for those who need a break.
Dino Rock, who hired one of the mobility scooters, said: “I recently fractured my ankle which, as a very active person, has really set me back.
“Thanks to the mobility scooter rental I was able to enjoy a full day out on the reserve.
“The volunteer team were really welcoming, helping me to get set up on the scooter and check I was doing alright.
“Frampton is such a beautiful and special place, I am so grateful that the reserve is so accessible for people with limited mobility - my partner and I were able to enjoy it all together.”
