A spokesman for the trust said: “We can confirm that an unauthorised traveller encampment has gained access to Jenny’s Wood on Five House Lane, Boston, by forcing entry and causing damage to the site.

“This is deeply upsetting for all of us at the trust, as the area is maintained by volunteers for the benefit of the whole community.

”We are working closely with Boston Borough Council and Lincolnshire Police to follow the appropriate legal process and ensure the swift removal of the encampment. Once the site is vacated, we will be able to fully assess the extent of the damage caused.

“We would like to sincerely thank the public for the many messages of support and generous offers of assistance during this time. Your continued encouragement means a great deal to our team and volunteers who care so deeply about protecting and preserving this much-loved green space.”

Lincolnshire Police states that the encampment is believed to have arrived just after 7.30pm yesterday.

A statement said: “We are working with the landowner, those on the site and Boston Borough Council to monitor the situation and reduce impact to the local community.”

A council spokesman said: “Boston Borough Council and Lincolnshire Police are working closely with the landowner, Boston Woods Trust, to provide support, guidance, and advice on the legal steps required to address the unauthorised encampment on their private land.”
