‘Totally hazed’ Boston woman almost three times the legal limit when collecting drunk husband
A ‘totally hazed’ woman has lost her driving licence after collecting her drunk husband - while almost three times the legal limit herself.
Two Good Samaritans had helped the paralytic man and called Svetlana Petrochova after finding him lying in Fishtoft Road, Boston.
It was about 10pm on April 16, Boston Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday, June 25.
The husband, who had been having a drinking session with Petrochova, was on his way to buy more alcohol when a dad driving his son came across him near a church.
“He was unable to drive any further as the road was blocked by the male,” said prosecutor Jade Salter.
“He described the male as heavily intoxicated – unable to stand and wasn’t making any sense.”
They managed to find a number to contact Petrochova so she could pick him up.
She drove from their Powell Street home in a VW Touran, parking behind an ambulance attending to her husband.
A strong smell of alcohol from the VW, coupled with Petrochova being ‘totally hazed’ drew suspicions.
The father took the woman’s keys from the ignition before police arrived.
Petrochova was arrested and later gave an evidential sample of 217 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80.
In court, she pleaded guilty to drink-driving.
In mitigation, solicitor Beris Brickles said his client’s husband had fallen over a pothole and injured himself.
“No doubt the intoxication may have contributed to that,” he added.
“She made a poor decision knowing that she was in alcohol herself but she was concerned for her husband’s condition.”
Petrochova was banned from driving for 23 months, which can be cut with completion of a rehabilitation course.
She was also fined £666 and told to pay £266 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
