Under-construction car showroom on Wyberton’s Quadrant development will be built to reduced height
A car showroom currently under construction will be built to a reduced height.
A Kia dealership Drayton Motors will occupy the site off Coney Way - part of Wyberton’s Quadrant development - when building work on the 1,101m2 unit is completed.
WCO Properties were originally granted permission to construct the showroom in August 2023.
However, changes to the height of the building, along with confirmation of materials and boundary treatments, as well as a change in landscaping to accommodate incoming power supply have been approved by Boston Borough Council.
“The roof height of the main building as approved was 7.1m above finished floor level at the edge of the building, with a central section rising a little further to 7.125m,” the Boston Borough Council planning officer report said.
“The amended plans show the raised central section to be removed with the eaves height set at 6.4m for what is now an almost flat roof (with a fall from the centre line of 2 degrees) to be partly covered with solar panels (exact number and specification to be confirmed).
“This change will have little impact, the form and appearance of the structure being very much as approved.
“In effect the signage area above the showroom glazing will be reduced by approximately one quarter in height, but there will be no material impact on local character.”
Further minor changes approved include the two service roller shutter doors on the south west elevation being moved slightly further apart.
Three specimen trees were also involved in the original plans but, due to required routing for the major power cable supplying the site, the area will now be laid to grass with a short section of hedge.
“Whilst the reduction in the number of trees is regrettable it is partly made up by an increase in the numbers to the south of the entrance, and is necessary to ensure the delivery of power to the site,” the report added.
The Quadrant Development also includes homes, Costa Coffee, Starbucks, Papa John’s pizza, Enterprise car rental and Boston United’s Jakemans Community Stadium.
A filling station and further retail space has also been approved.
