Woodlands care home to be built in Tarragon Way, Bourne

A new care home will be built to provide living accommodation for 66 older people after gaining council approval.

An existing house will be demolished to make way for the development in Tarragon Way, Bourne.

LNT Care Developments has secured planning permission despite strong opposition from neighbours who deemed the plot of land to be unsuitable for a “commercial operation”.

Their biggest concerns were around the proposed access from Coriander Drive and an increase in traffic congestion.

Despite these worries the developer has been told to permanently close the existing access point onto Tarragon Way once the home is ready and to create a vehicle turning and parking area within the site to reduce traffic problems.

Planning officers at South Kesteven District Council have also negotiated a financial contribution of £29,954 from the company to offset the impact on healthcare services provided by Hereward Medical Centre, Bourne Galletly Practice and the Glenside Country Practice and Market Cross Surgery in Corby Glen.

The council has also stated that a zebra crossing must be installed near the bus station to provide a safe place to cross and the eight pedestrian crossings along Exeter Street must be upgraded to tactile crossing points to help people with visual impairments.
