Mr Gooden, 59, from Cambridgeshire, died after police were called to a three car collision on the A6121 near Toft at 7.20pm on Friday, July 21, 2023.

David Eager, prosecuting, told the hearing that members of Mr Gooden's family were present in court to watch Mr Clears enter his guilty plea.

Chris Jeyes, defending, said he did not want a pre-sentence report as Mr Clears appreciated a jail sentence was inevitable.

"Mr Clears realises the situation he is in," Mr Jeyes told the court. "He would ask that Your Honour remands him into custody."

Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight agreed to the request and adjourned sentence until February 28 next year at Lincoln Crown Court.

"You have pleaded guilty to I know what you understand is a very serious offence," Judge Sjolin Knight told Clears.

"The only sentence is custody here, so I will remand you into custody as I am asked to do so by your counsel."

Clears was told he will now also be subject to an interim driving ban.
