Barchester Healthcare care home, The Cedars, in Bourne, make rugby fan resident’s dream come true

Care home staff went the extra mile to make a lifelong rugby fan’s wish come true with a trip to watch his grandson in action.

In earlier years, The Cedars Care Home resident Colin drove his grandson Josh to play in matches around the country.

When he told staff of his wish to see him play once again, for Buckinghamshire side Amersham and Chiltern RFC, the Bourne care home obliged.

And, as an extra surprise, they arranged for his family and friends to be there on the touchline when he arrived for kick-off.

“It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to make this possible,” said Colin, who has been at The Cedars for two years.

Due to Colin’s diagnosis, leaving the care home takes a lot of organisation and specialist transport, but staff at the home were delighted to help.

“We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at The Cedars,” said Rebecca Aldred, senior general manager.

“It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ wishes come true.

“It was wonderful to see how happy Colin was, and the montage of photos that the staff have made of the day will give him and his family retrospective pleasure forever.”
