St Firmin’s Church in Thurlby reaches its 1,100th anniversary
Villagers are invited to celebrate the 1,100th anniversary of their local church.
The congregation of St Firmin’s Church in Thurlby will gather for afternoon tea on Saturday afternoon (July 5) between 3pm and 5pm to mark the occasion.
This will be followed by a service of Holy communion on Sunday at 10am led by the Bishop of Grantham, Nicholas Chamberlain, and a free concert by Serenity Flutes from 2pm until 4pm.
Reverend Carolyn Bailey said: “I am delighted to lead a strong and dedicated congregation at St Firmin’s and to play my part in the long history of Christian worship in this beautiful church”.
The building dates back to 925AD making it older than Lincoln Cathedral. It is one of only two churches in England which are dedicated to Saint Firmin who was born in Spain and became Bishop of Amiens in France through his missionary work.
