Bourne Town beat Wisbech Town in the United Counties League Premier Division North
Will Bird hit a hat-trick as newly-promoted Bourne Town got their first points in the United Counties League Premier Division North on Wednesday night.
Bird struck a treble as the Wakes ran out 5-0 winners against visiting Wisbech Town at the JJ Mac Stadium.
Zak Munton also bagged a brace as Bourne bounced back in style from their opening day defeat against AFC Mansfield.
A failure to take their chances at key moments in Saturday's match had led to Bourne's downfall at the weekend.
However, two goals inside the opening 13 minutes put them in control of their midweek meeting with Wisbech who had also lost their first game of the campaign.
A close range strike from Munton was deflected home to give Bourne an 11th minute lead which was doubled shortly after when Bird slotted home a cross from Martin Tudosa.
Zak Allen nearly added a third goal to a dominant first half performance with a shot from distance which rattled the Wisbech crossbar.
Bourne put the contest beyond their visitors just before the hour mark when Tudosa did well to win possession before playing in Munton who applied a clinical finish.
The Wakes then finished the contest strongly with two goals in the final three minutes wrapping up a convincing win.
Bird headed home a Munton cross to make it four before completing his hat-trick by arrowing his finish into the far corner of the Wisbech net.
Bourne are back in action again at the Abbey Lawn on Saturday when they host Aylestone Park in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup.
Their Leicestershire visitors have made a strong start to the United Counties League Premier Division South season with back-to-back victories.
Former Stamford midfielder Jake Duffy joined Aylestone in the close season as player-coach after helping Harborough Town win the Northern Premier League Midlands Division title.
Former Daniels and Deeping Rangers striker Sam Hollis is also with Aylestone as well as ex-Stamford player Pearson Mwanyongo.
