Bourne Town beat Ashby Ivanhoe in the United Counties League
A 10-match unbeaten run in all competitions has propelled Bourne Town up into third spot in the United Counties League Premier Division North.
The Wakes extended their excellent run of form with a 4-0 away success at Ashby Ivanhoe on Saturday to maintain their place in the play-off spots in their first season back at step five of the non-league footballing pyramid.
The in-form Will Bird struck twice with Zac Allen and Zak Munton both continuing their scoring streaks as Bourne defied an ever-growing injury list to triumph on the artificial surface at Quorn.
Manager Michael Goode said: "We had to shuffle the pack around again, but everyone just stepped up to the mark like they have been doing for the past few weeks now.
"Ashby had picked up a couple of good results recently and probably fancied their chances but, once we got a couple of goals, we managed the game superbly in the second half.
"We kept the ball, played in the right areas and were very solid defensively. It was a really good away performance.
"It was a good three points and it puts us into a fantastic position. We won't be getting carried away by it though but everyone is just starting to find a bit of form."
The Wakes travelled without new signing Tom Siddons who faces a short spell on the sidelines with a knee injury following his arrival from Stamford.
Henry Dunn, Shaun Archer and James Hill-Seekings were also absent while Robbie Ellis was only fit enough for a place on the substitutes' bench.
Dan Flack was moved into midfield and the former Deeping Rangers player produced a fine display in an excellent all-round Bourne performance.
Allen had twice gone close before Bourne broke the deadlock after 16 minutes when a long clearance from goalkeeper Dan Swan found Munton who released Bird to give the Wakes the lead.
Jack Wilson went close to doubling the advantage with a header before Bird latched onto an Aaron Eyett through to lob home the second goal.
The Wakes then needed a couple of top drawer saves from goalkeeper Swan to preserve their two-goal lead at the break
A third goal followed just past the hour mark with Eyett again the supplier as his inch-perfect pass released Allen to round the keeper and slot home.
Munton then completed the scoring when he converted a low cross from Allen to maintain Bourne's unbeaten away record.
The victory ensured they backed up an excellent midweek win at Boston Town in a run of away games while a changing room refurbishment project is taking place at the Abbey Lawn.
Goode added: "It was a great result at Boston and it was important on Saturday that we didn't slip back and think that we had done our job.
"We couldn't let our good work go to waste because we had been unbelievably good against a Boston team who bombarded us from the first minute.
"We've had a really good 10 days now and, although we're still not the finished product, we have got players still to come back from injury who will really strengthen us."
Bourne are in United Counties League KO Cup action on Wednesday night when they take on Division One side Dunkirk. The match is being played at Blackstones.
