It was a great start to the season for the Bourne Grammar School pupil, especially as he is currently in the middle of his GCSE examinations which have taken its toll with late night revision around training sessions.

Capes now travels to Halle in Germany to compete at the Mecca of throwing against some of the world's best.

He is going into the event ranked number two behind a Chinese athlete.

Capes then heads back to Loughborough for the Pickering International where some of the top teams around Europe will be on show.

It is a hectic start to the season for the teenager but will provide great experience to build on for the rest of the campaign.
