Bourne Town Juniors Under 12 Clarets have won the Lincolnshire County Cup

Bourne Town Juniors Under 12 Clarets have been crowned Lincolnshire County Cup champions.

They defeated Carlton FC 1-0 in a dramatic final under the lights at Sleaford Town's Elsaforde Park ground on Tuesday night.

The cup final win capped a long road to success for the Clarets after they started the competition in October by defeating Immingham Pilgrims.

They then overcame Sleaford Town, Boston United, Horncastle Town and Wyberton in the lead up to the final where the only goal of the game came four minutes before the break.

Jack Burke won the ball in midfield and played a neat one-two with Samual Holland on the edge of the box before ghosting past two defenders and thumping a shot past George Breed in the Carlton goal.

Carlton could have levelled matters on the stroke of half-time after they were awarded a penalty for handball, but Bourne goalkeeper Freddie Norman pulled off a stunning diving save to his right to parry the unfortunate Freddie Hitchens’ spot kick.

The second half saw an increase in pressure from Carlton on the Bourne goal with both Harrison Clark and Patriks Zihmanis being required to make crucial interceptions.

It was the Wakes who came closest to scoring the second goal with Jude Smith rattling the Carlton crossbar and Frankie Fasulo narrowly heading over after reacting quickest to the rebound.

Ethan Pierre was desperately close to grabbing a second for Bourne as his shot was well dealt with by Breed.

But, after five minutes of nervy injury time, the Wakes youngsters were able to celebrate their first County Cup triumph and add another honour to a highly successful season for Bourne Town.
