Bourne Town draw at AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the Northern Premier League

Bourne Town stretched their unbeaten run to three games with a hard-fought point in their Northern Premier League Midlands Division match at AFC Rushden & Diamonds on Tuesday night.

The goalless draw backed up the point at Rugby Borough on Saturday and the victory over Basford last Tuesday night.

The Wakes had gone into the midweek match boosted by the loan extension of Sam Bayly who is staying for a further month on a temporary basis from Peterborough Sports.

Visiting goalkeeper Will Lakin was forced into action early on with a smart stop to deny Raymond Poku with Aidan Webster's follow up being blocked by the Bourne defence.

Wakes attacker Lewis Darlington was then denied by a superb last-ditch challenge from Tarik Dallas before fellow frontman Tom Siddons was thwarted by an excellent save from Diamonds goalkeeper Lewis Elsom.

Siddons sent another effort just wide before Dallas went close for the hosts with an audacious overhead kick as the opening half finished goalless.

Siddons and Brad Marshall both brought out saves from Elsom after the break while Connor Furey ended a promising attack by shooting over.

Furey was then dismissed with seven minutes remaining after kicking the ball away and collecting his second caution of the game.

Diamonds thought they had won the game as the match entered five minutes of stoppage time as they bundled the ball home only for the referee to have already blown for an earlier infringement and he pulled the game back for the initial free-kick.

Former Spalding striker Tyler Winters fizzed over a dangerous cross which Diamonds were unable to convert as the match ended in a stalemate.

Bourne are back in action at the JJ Mac Stadium on Saturday as they host Long Eaton with just three points separating the two sides in the league table.
