Zak Munton scores twice as Bourne Town beat Ashby Ivanhoe in the United Counties League

Zak Munton scored twice as Bourne Town bounced back from their FA Vase exit by returning to winning ways in the United Counties League on Tuesday night.

Munton struck a second half double as the Wakes defeated Ashby Ivanhoe in the Premier Division North match at the JJ Mac Stadium.

The win moved Michael Goode's side to within four points of top spot and keeps the Wakes in second place ahead of the chasing pack.

Munton had gone close to breaking the deadlock in the first half with a curling shot that went narrowly over from Jack Wilson lay-off.

However, within two minutes of the second half starting, Munton had put Bourne in front as he held off a challenge before slotting home the opening goal.

Will Bird came close to doubling the advantage but was denied by a smart save from the visiting goalkeeper before the Ashby defence raced back to clear after Munton had rounded the custodian.

Bourne's second goal arrived on the hour mark when Munton latched onto a ball over the top before rifling home his finish.

It capped a dominant performance from the Wakes who make the trip to Belper United on Saturday.
