Bourne Town are beaten by Lincoln United in the United Counties League

Bourne Town missed out on the chance to go back top of the United Counties League Premier Division North table after suffering their first defeat in more than three months on Tuesday night.

The Wakes went down to a 2-1 away loss at Lincoln United as their 19-match unbeaten run was ended by their third-placed hosts.

Second half goals from Jack McMenemy and Jaime Ture had given the Whites control of the contest before new signing Eunis Lievins netted in injury-time for the Wakes.

Lievins - who has been playing for Royston Town in the Southern League Premier Division Central - was making his debut for Bourne.

He came into a Bourne starting line-up which was missing top scorer Zac Allen due to an injury sustained in the FA Vase win at the weekend.

The Wakes were also forced into an early goalline clearance to deny Ture at the back post from Scott Matthews' corner.

Zak Munton then created a couple of early openings for Bourne as Tom Siddons saw a shot cleared away by former Stamford team-mate Sean Wright before Robbie Ellis fired an effort over.

A cagey first half then saw Bourne end it with 10 men when Ellis was sin-binned for dissent which forced him onto the sidelines for 10 minutes.

Wakes goalkeeper Dan Swan turned away a shot from Stamford loanee Josh Burniston - who was making his Lincoln debut after joining on dual registration - before McMenemy headed an effort over from a Matthews corner as the first half finished goalless.

Bourne were back to their full complement of players after the break and Brad Marshall saw a header from a Munton free-kick cleared away by Jack Varley.

Paul Grimes curled an effort narrowly wide for the Whites who then made the all-important breakthrough in the 73rd minute.

Matthews sent a corner to the back post where Ture headed goalwards. It looked like Bourne had cleared the ball off the line but the assistant signalled for a goal and Lincoln had the lead.

Swan produced a superb save to deny Ture from another set piece before the Whites doubled their advantage in the 79th minute.

Swan repelled a shot from Burniston but McMenemy reacted first to grab the rebound and round the goalkeeper before tapping home.

Will Bird then saw a goalbound effort blocked by Evan Payne as Bourne looked for a late way back into the contest.

Their goal finally arrived in the seventh minute of stoppage time when Lievins powered home a header but it was too late to prevent Bourne from falling to their first defeat since the one-goal reversal at Wisbech Town in mid-October.

The loss means Eastwood now have pole position on goal difference from Bourne with the two teams having played the same amount of games.

Lincoln are six points adrift of the top two in third place but have a game in hand on both sides.

Bourne have a home match with eighth-placed Heanor Town on Saturday.
