Deepings Practice boosted by Oddfellows donation to Market Deeping men’s group

Patients at a town practice have been given a helping hand to get around thanks to a £2,500 donation.

Nene and Welland Oddfellows presented a cheque to the Deeping Men’s Group charity at its Cold Pudding Club meeting at Oddfellows Hall in Market Deeping.

The friendly society, which has more than 450 mostly older and retired members, has raised the money through various activities, including raffles, a table top sale and games held at local carnivals.

“I chose the Deeping Men’s Group because of the brilliant work they do in supplying wheelchairs, electric scooters and other mobility aids for patients of the Deepings Practice,” said outgoing Oddfellows chairman, Chris Briance.

“It’s a great initiative, making sure those who need it can retain their independence.”

Deeping Men’s Group chairman, Brian Thornthwaite, added: “The money will go towards replacing a number of our older wheelchairs which were reaching the end of their usefulness.

“However, we have passed these older wheelchairs on to another charity who will refurbish them and send them to Ukraine.”

As well as its fundraising initiatives, Nene and Welland Oddfellows hosts affordable and accessible events sch as talks, craft clubs, bingo, and lunches which are open to all.

Oddfellows members can also access benefits, including care and welfare support and a travel club, as well as volunteering opportunities.

Upcoming events include a free food bank talk on Thursday, May 30 at 10.30am, including light refreshments at Oddfellows Hall, in Church Street. Call 01778 342006 to book.

They will also be at the Pinchbeck Carnival on Saturday, June 8 fundraising for this year’s nominated charity, Bourne-based Three Counties Dog Rescue.
