Author Jackie Brown’s new book 'Jake goes to the Pawlympics' supports Blind Veterans UK and others

A new children’s book is set to raise funds for three charities, including Blind Veterans UK.

Written by Gainsborough-area author Jackie Brown, Jake goes to the Pawlympics follows the adventures of a three-legged dog.

The story aims to inspire readers to believe in themselves, regardless of challenges.

Jake, Brown’s rescue dog from her time in Kosovo with NATO, inspired the story with his survival against the odds.

“Jake was brought into the Army camp where I was working with a leg hanging off and a foot missing,” she said.

“I fell in love with his brown eyes and couldn’t see him go back on the street. Jake is now 14 and has been with me for 11 years.”

Jackie has long fundraised for veteran and animal charities.

The book’s sales will benefit Blind Veterans UK, BLESMA, and an animal charity.

Jackie hopes to train street pups as guide dogs and volunteer for Blind Veterans UK.

Jake goes to the Pawlympics officially launched on Wednesday. For more details, visit the Troubadour website.

Brown’s connection to the charity runs deep, inspired by a friend blinded while serving in the SAS.

Inspired by his story, Brown aims to raise awareness and funds through her work.

“The veterans supported by the charity encompass the message in my book that anything is possible if you believe in yourself,” she said.
