NODA award-winning St Peter’s Hill Players from Grantham back with classic play Pygmalion
Representatives from St Peter's Hill Players recently attended the NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) Awards, where they had been nominated for the Best Play Award for East Midlands, (District 5) for their May 2023 production of Peter Gordon's comedy 'Murdered To Death'.
The group were delighted to take home the award, beating competition from neighbouring group the Grantham Dramatic Society for their comedy 'Bleak Expectations', and Spalding’s St Nicolas Players production of ‘Don’t Dress for Dinner’.
Murdered to Death director Andy Antony, who collected the prize, said: “This was a big surprise! Not everyone is lucky enough to win this award, and when you see how many societies are in District 5, and how many productions there were, you realise what an honour it is.
“This could not have happened without the many people who gave their time and efforts towards set design and build, sound effects, prompting at rehearsals, marketing, poster and programme design, front of house staff, and of course, costumes.
“Then, of course, there is the fabulous cast who took direction and made the characters their own. What a great team effort!'
Now the team at St Peter’s Hill Players have started work on their next production, the classic George Bernard Shaw play 'Pygmalion', which inspired the well-known musical My Fair Lady.
Pygmalion will be directed by Andy and wife Sharon, with a number of new, returning, and long-standing members among the cast bringing well-known characters including flower girl Eliza Doolittle, her roguish father Alfred, phonetics and elocution expert Henry Higgins, and Colonel Pickering to life.
Pygmalion will be performed at the Guildhall Arts Centre on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday October 12 at 2.30pm.
