Free screenings of new Steve Coogan film coming to Lincolnshire
Film fans in Lincolnshire can watch Steve Coogan’s new film for free as part of a national initiative.
Escapes, a project supported by BFI National Lottery funding, is offering a free screening of The Penguin Lessons on Monday (March 17), a month before its official UK release.
The event, part of National Lottery Open Week, aims to make cinema more accessible while celebrating independent cinemas across the country.
Cinemas in Boston, Grantham, Mablethorpe, Wisbech, and Woodhall Spa are among 108 nationwide screening the film for free.
Directed by The Full Monty’s Peter Cattaneo and written by Philomena’s Jeff Pope, The Penguin Lessons is a comedy-drama based on a true story.
Tom, an Englishman teaching in 1976 Argentina, expects an easy life but faces a divided country and unruly students.
Rescuing a penguin brings him unexpected friendships and lessons.
The film also features Jonathan Pryce and promises a mix of humour and heartfelt moments.
Local filmgoers can secure their tickets now via the Escapes website.
Over 65,000 free Escapes tickets were claimed in 2024.
Previous screenings have included cult classics and family-friendly animations, making cinema more accessible to diverse audiences.
The project supports independent film with monthly free screenings.
