Grantham man Tim recognised for dedication to music in St Wulfram’s Church and schools
The Master of the Music at St Wulfram’s Church has won an award recognising his work in music in the town.
Dr Tim Williams has been awarded the Certificate of Special Service by the Royal School of Church Music.
The award has been given in recognition of Dr Williams’ ‘significant local contribution to church music’.
As well as his work at St Wulfram’s, Dr Williams works with a number of schools and directs the choir at Harlaxton College.
Dr Williams said: “I’m delighted to receive this award, especially because I think it also recognises the commitment that so many people (choristers, their families, all the people who help) have towards the choir at St Wulfram’s.
“I have devoted much of my working life to building a living tradition of sacred choral music, and St Wulfram’s is such a wonderful place to be a church musician. I also greatly enjoy the teaching side of being a choirmaster; we have the most superb and dedicated choristers in our boys’ choir, girls’ choir, teenage youth choir and in the adult sections of our choir, who are always a joy to work with and who sing to an incredible standard.”
Dr Williams, who joined St Wulfram’s in 2008, added: “During this time I’ve worked hard to build choral singing at St Wulfram’s, and we have a thriving choir community based at the church.”
In the latest edition of Church Music Quarterly, Dr Williams’ award was announced.
It said: “Tim Williams has built up the choir at the large town church of St Wulfram, Grantham, working with local schools and enabling opportunities for around 40 choristers at a time. Many children from this choir are now passing RSCM awards exams and the choir has undertakehn residencies at Canterbury, Salisbury and St Paul’s Cathedrals.
“Tim’s considerable achievement has been to bring new life to the church through the ministry of music, particularly with young people.”
Dr Williams will receive his certificate later in the year at the national RSCM celebration day.
