Lincolnshire Institute of Technology, including Grantham and Boston Colleges, gets 10-year government backing

A partnership of education providers across the county has secured a 10-year relicensing from the Department for Education (DfE).

The Lincolnshire Institute of Technology (LIoT), including Grantham and Boston colleges, aims to support the region’s workforce development.

The LIoT aims to strengthen its work in engineering, manufacturing, digital, and construction, ensuring the workforce has the skills for an evolving economy.

Mick Lochran, director of the LIoT, said: “It shows the government’s commitment to supporting the development of the technical skills that our industries require, and demonstrates the value of the work we’re doing.

“Over the next 10 years, our mission is to create even stronger links with employers across the county, to support the development of the workforce of the future.”

Since its foundation five years ago, the LIoT has helped over 3,000 learners achieve technical qualifications, the majority at level 4 or 5, with many securing employment soon after.

The institute has overseen more than £30 million in investment, creating eight training facilities with advanced equipment.

The LIoT plans to deepen its ties with employers to keep the workforce competitive.

Mr Lochran emphasised the importance of these collaborations, noting how critical they are to the region’s economic growth.

As part of a national network of 21 Institutes of Technology, backed by £290 million of government funding, the LIoT is positioned to play a key role in addressing skills gaps locally.

Each institute focuses on specialisms aligned with regional needs, supporting local industries and the economy.
