New Grantham comic shop Gambit73 aims to bring ‘excitement’ to town centre

A new shop has opened in Grantham town centre, selling comics, TV and film memorabilia and collectables.

Gambit73, based in Westgate, quietly opened its doors on July 8 with limited stock.

The shop’s frontage was completed last week and is now fully stocked up with mini figures, Funko Pops and a wide range of other collectables.

Shop owners Dan Powell and Claire Hall, who is from Grantham, say they want to bring "excitement” back to the town centre with Gambit73.

Dan, originally from Swineshead near Boston, used to work from home selling similar products online, and even converted his garage into a shop.

The 50-year-old has also run pop-up shops at various comic conventions and has been in the business of selling collectables for around a decade.

Gambit73 is his first permanent shop and Dan said that it was so far “going really well”.

He explained that a lot of the customers who had recently come into the shop had said “wow” upon entering.

“There is nothing like this in the town,” said Dan. “That is what we need, people coming into town and getting excited.

“You get lots of conversations with customers about all sorts. People are really into this sort of thing.”

Claire explained that Gambit73 opened on July 8 but “just quietly with limited stock”.

“We have now had signage installed and the shop is full to bursting.”

Dan added: “It looks like a proper shop now. Signage always makes a difference.”

He explained that the shop sells “the latest American comics, everything on TV and film, horror, halloween, Funko Pops, anything really”.

“People have always liked the retro stuff,” added Dan.

Dan and Claire say they are looking at hosting early comic book readings and other events in the future.
