Grantham son raises funds for mother’s wig ahead of cancer treatment
A son has raised more than £1,000 to buy a wig for his mother, ahead of her cancer treatment.
Amanda Sutton, who runs Grantham business Sewing by Sue with her mother Sue and son Callum, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Callum decided he wanted to raise money for a wig to make his mum feel beautiful during her treatment.
The fund-raiser is a raffle, giving participants the opportunity to win one of two pink NHS bears. Recently, Sewing by Sue raffled off similar bears wearing blue scrubs, raising over £500 for the NHS.
Callum said: “Recently we were given the news that my mum has been diagnosed with breast cancer. With the diagnosis, comes the treatment, and with that comes the inevitability of hair loss, something my mum is quite anxious about.
“I decided that I was going to set up a fund-raiser for my mum in order to buy her a wig; something resembling her own hair colour, length and style, all to make the process as easy as possible.
“The raffle is being held over on the Sewing by Sue Facebook page, and everyone that donates will be entered into a prize draw to win two pink NHS Bears. These bears were the prize of our last fund-raiser and they seemed to be very popular.
“Our target was £1,000 and we have raised over that, which means we have been able to order the wig.
“The main reason I wanted to start this fund-raiser was to make sure my mum felt beautiful throughout this time.
“She has always done so much for everyone in the community, and she has always found such comfort in her hair, so I knew the people of Grantham, as well as her family and friends, would be happy to help her find comfort through this difficult time.”
Raffle tickets cost £1 per slip, details on the Sewing by Sue Facebook page.
