‘Spooktacular’ duck race and Halloween trail held at Wyndham Park in Grantham thanks to the work of “incredible” volunteers

A ‘spooktacular’ duck race and Halloween trail was held in Grantham over the weekend, supported by the work of “incredible” volunteers.

Grantham Lions held its ’Spooktacular’ Halloween Duck Race on Sunday in Wyndham Park, working with South Kesteven District Council, who organised the annual Trick or Treat trail.

Some 600 ducks were released from the Redcross Street bridge in the River Witham, which was flowing well thanks to the recent wet weather.

Rivercare’s Ian Simmons noted that the flow of the river “made for an exciting race”, with the course finishing below the White Bridge.

The event was part of the Lions’ continued fundraising efforts to benefit local charities, and around £600 was raised from the excited crowd.

Grantham Lions were supported by volunteers from Grantham RiverCare who managed the river safety and the retrieval of the ducks at the end of the race.

Phil Marshall, of the Lions, said: “The duck race went very well, helped no doubt by the kind weather which attracted a good turnout along the river banks.”

The Trick or Treat trail, also in Wyndham Park, was enjoyed by over 200 children.

A spokesperson for SKDC said: “The Halloween Trick or Treat Trail at Wyndham Park was a huge success with over 200 children taking part.

“As always, it is wonderful to see the park so busy with communities coming together to celebrate Halloween and take part in some fantastic activities.

“We’d like to offer our thanks to everyone who attended and supported the event, as well the park volunteers who offered their time to make it a success.”

There was a competition for the best costumes, with prizes given to the winners.
