Terry Shelbourne caricature: George, 83, is canal society's oldest member
At 83 years old, George Gee is Grantham Canal Society's oldest member - not that you would realise.
Since joining the society just over a year ago, George, who lives in Fulbeck with his pet dog Matilda, can be found at the canal every Friday and Saturday, where he gets stuck in to help restore the canal to its former glory and return it to its full navigation.
George, who has three daughters and one son, said: "I just love messing about with boats and water, so I went along to the society's open day last year. When I saw the dredger, I thought to myself, 'I'd love to drive that.' I went along to their next meeting and that was it. I have been hooked ever since."
But despite being out in all weathers, George, who has just returned from visiting his eldest daughter in France, said: 'I get to meet lots of great people from all different walks of life and you often get to hear a good yarn. Not to mention, Mary Noble (member) always puts on a good spread of sweet treats and homemade cakes at the canal depot before we set off in the mornings.
When George is not at the canal, he enjoys looking after bees, often making homes for them in his garden.
He added: "They don't need much looking after. They just like somewhere that is nice, dry and comfortable."
