Warning over phishing scam about fake missing Grantham girl
A fake report about a missing girl from Grantham is believed to be a phishing scam.
The scam claims that a little girl vanished from Downtown and that police are urging people to share the post in an attempt to find her.
This fake report appears to exist to steal people's Facebook account details. You should not click on the link.
The headline reads "A little girl was kidnapped! The kidnapper is still at large! Do you recognize him? [SEE VIDEO]".
This false story can be identified by the use of a quote from a "police captain", a rank that does not exist in the UK, as well as multiple grammatical errors.
There are also fake Facebook comments and an accompanying video which is reportedly taken from a story in India from August 2019.
As well as appearing in Grantham, the scam has also been doing the rounds in areas such as High Wycombe and Buxton.
The story has been confirmed as false by Child Rescue Alert, who are responsible for issuing alerts to locate missing children. None of their alerts sent out this year have concerned a girl named Alice.
