No trains to London King’s Cross this Bank Holiday weekend as LNER continues upgrade works

Travellers this bank holiday weekend are warned of disruption on direct lines to London.

London North Eastern Railway will continue work on its East Coast Digital Programme this weekend, with no LNER services to or from London King's Cross from 10pm on Saturday, August 24, to 8am on Monday, August 26.

There will also be changes to most services through Lincolnshire from Saturday to early Monday.

LNER has issued warnings about the disruption to travel.
LNER has issued warnings about the disruption to travel.

Direct services will be amended between Lincoln, Grantham, and St Neots, meaning travellers will need to take a rail replacement coach to Bedford before travelling into London St Pancras.

Meanwhile, East Midlands Railway is also warning of engineering works this weekend affecting the Newark-Derby-Crewe routes.

Rail replacement services will be running for some routes.

The latest disruption comes a week ahead of industrial action at LNER on weekends between 31 August and 10 November.

The Aslef-organised strikes follow a breakdown in industrial relations.

These are separate from ongoing pay disputes.

In a statement, LNER has said: “We're working quickly to understand the impact this will have on our planned timetables for these dates and will be contacting affected customers once plans are confirmed.

“If strike action goes ahead, we'll be running a reduced timetable.”
