Harrowby United draw with Newark & Sherwood in the United Counties League
Harrowby hit back from their weekend humbling to earn their first point following promotion on Tuesday night.
The Arrows shared the spoils with new tenants Newark & Sherwood who are ground-sharing at the JRL Brickwork Stadium this season.
All of the four goals in an entertaining 2-2 draw came in the first half of the United Counties League Premier Division North match.
It was Harrowby's first-ever away game at their home ground and, after the heavy 8-1 defeat against Eastwood at the weekend, they were determined not to repeat the scoreline.
Right from the kick off, Harrowby were on the front foot and their positive start paid off in the ninth minute when Taylor Gray got on the end of Jon Smith's cross to head home from six yards.
Harrowby's lead, however, was short-lived as the Highwaymen were level a minute later when Kieran Cummings fired home from close range.
Harrowby were not fazed and continued to push with Smith down the right and Tom Harris on the left a constant threat.
The Arrows regained the lead on 16 minutes when good work from Rueban Nwadike, Harrison Dee and Harris freed up last season's top scorer Harry Allcock who made no mistake by firing past Beau Watson in the Newark goal.
Newark responded well and the lethal long throw from Keiran Walker was a constant threat.
And it was from a long throw when goalkeeper Jake Frestle failed to gather the ball that it fell to Ben Henderson who finished well from the edge of the box.
Newark piled on the pressure and Cummings went close on the half-hour before they were awarded a penalty when Kyle Reek's challenge was deemed a foul.
However, Frestle was up to the challenge by saving Cummings' penalty kick low to his right to ensure the teams went in level at the break after a pretty even half.
A cagey start to the second half saw chances for both teams with the ever-dangerous Cummings a constant threat for Newark while Harris went narrowly wide for Harrowby on the hour.
The game was pretty even up until the last 10 minutes when Harrowby's pressure almost paid off.
Chances for Dee, Allcock and Harris forced three fine saves from Watson but the points were shared with both teams having chances to grab all three points near the end.
The Arrows did, however, suffer another injury setback with new signing Marley Hamilton suffering a bad ankle injury which is likely to keep him sidelined for several weeks. That follows the loss of Ethan Greenidge in Saturday's defeat to Eastwood.
Harrowby hit the FA Cup trail on Saturday when they travel to Premier Division North rivals Melton Town for an extra preliminary round tie.
