Exciting event was presented by Grantham Amateur Boxing Club and Touch Gloves Boxing Gym

Four tough and close bouts will help the development of Grantham Boxing Club fighters after their appearance at a show held at the Meres Leisure Centre on Saturday night.

The event was presented by Grantham Amateur Boxing Club and the town's Touch Gloves Boxing Gym.

Nathan Follows was the first in action for the Grantham club and his coaches couldn't have asked for more from him in his first time stepping into the ring.

Finley Saggs was next up and he again took part in a competitive bout.

Saggs put some lovely straight combinations together and backed them up with some tidy hooks.

It was a very close contest but unfortunately the nod was given to his opponent by the narrowest margin.

After the interval, Shawn-Paul Follows was up in his second bout back after a four-year gap in his boxing.

Shawn started strongly in the first round but, right at the end, took a good shot, causing a standing eight count which probably tipped that round to his opponent.

Unfazed he went out and put on a strong performance in the second, taking the round.

The third was very close with his opponent just getting the judge's verdict after an entertaining contest.

Will Preston was the final Grantham boxer and he was involved in an excellent bout of two tough and solid young men.

Both gave and took solid shots in a true three round barn-stormer.

Will really started to apply the pressure in the final round and was getting success with good solid combinations, nearly forcing a stoppage but unfortunately running out of time.

The contest again went to the scorecards where the judges tipped the win to his opponent.

A spokesman for Grantham ABC said: "It may seem that we had a bad night at the office but it's quite the opposite.

"The young men will all grow and learn so much from tough and close bouts like these and so will the coaches.

"Everyone from the club was very proud as they all showed incredible heart and we know the future is very bright.

“It was a great night overall and a huge thank you to everyone that helped in anyway to make it an amazing success and evening of great memories.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Touch Gloves Boxing Gym and to our head coach Dean Fardell.

“Dean has been with the club for many years and, without his hard work and dedication, Grantham ABC would not be here today.”
