He said: "It's a fantastic achievement for this club to win this league after only getting promoted last season.

"We've been on an incredible journey over the past two years and I'm immensely proud of each and everyone of these players."

The Apples started well on Saturday and had numerous chances before Sam Scothern cleverly lobbed The Rossoneri keeper to break the deadlock.

Colsterworth carried on putting the away side under pressure and eventually got a second goal when Liam Warner latched onto Eathan Milne's corner.

An injury to Nathan Brettoner seemed to have halted the hosts' momentum and it wasn't until midway into the second half when Alfie Sheen was brought down in the box and captain Conor MacGregor stepped up.

Although his initial effort was saved, MacGregor managed to redeem himself by converting the rebound to make the final score 3-0.

The Apples play their final league game on Saturday away at Notts Olympic where they will receive the league trophy.
