Harrowby United lose to Sleaford Town in the United Counties League

Harrowby's first game of the year on Saturday ended in disappointment at the hands of a young and energetic Sleaford Town team.

Harry Allcock had given the Arrows the lead in the first half of the United Counties League Premier Division North match.

However, two goals in four second half minutes from Ben Ashall and Josh Parker sent Harrowby to a sixth successive league loss.

The Arrows had welcomed back some players from injury and suspension for their first match since Boxing Day.

They started well on a heavy bobbly pitch with Scott Floyd and Issa Gaye seeing a lot of the ball in the opening stages but the end result was always missing.

Sleaford were always a threat on the counter with Parker using his pace down the left to cause Harrowby problems.

The Arrows took the lead seven minutes before the break through Allcock who cut inside and struck a fine shot off the underside of the bar and into the net.

Harrowby had chances to extend their lead but Gaye and Lord Marfo lacked composure when through on goal.

Arrows goalkeeper Alex Smith then made two great saves while Harrison Dee also cleared an effort off the line as Harrowby held the lead at the break.

They again had chances to extend their advantage early in the second half with Kern Miller having two efforts saved while Floyd also hit the post.

Sleaford then upped their game and a minute later a corner was flicked on and put away at the far post by Ashall.

The Greens now had their tails up and just minutes later took the lead with a fine individual goal from the dangerous Parker.

Harrowby did have some great chances to equalise but couldn't find that all-important composure in front of goal.

Sleaford themselves had good chances on the counter attack as Harrowby tired towards the end but Smith made some amazing stops to keep the final score at 2-1.

The game finished with a disappointing result for the Arrows but full credit to Sleaford who ran and fought for every ball on the day and deserved their victory.

Harrowby now have back-to-back home games as they target a return to winning ways.

They host Wisbech Town at the JRL Brickwork Stadium on Saturday before entertaining Skegness next Tuesday night (January 28).
