Jack Gurney and Elliot King are departing Harrowby United

Two key players have departed Harrowby United.

Captain Jack Gurney and striker Elliot King have both decided against returning to the Arrows for next season's United Counties League Premier Division North campaign.

The duo have both played influential roles in Harrowby's rise back to step five of the non-league pyramid.

Gurney has been a virtual ever-present for manager Jamie McGhee who was full of praise for his outgoing skipper.

McGhee said: "Jack has been an outstanding player and a true leader during his time with Harrowby.

"Serving as our captain, Jack consistently demonstrated unwavering loyalty - choosing to stay with the club when he had opportunities elsewhere.

"In some of our most challenging times at step six, Jack was instrumental in holding the team together and inspiring the fight we needed to climb out of the bottom three.

"The following season, he led us to play-off final success - an achievement that stands as a testament to his leadership and commitment.

"Jack’s contributions have never gone unnoticed and he leaves us as a very popular club figure.

"Unfortunately, in football, there are moments when a fresh challenge is needed — for both the player and the club.

"We wish Jack every success in the next chapter of his career and nothing but the very best for the future."

King returned to the Arrows from Newark Town after helping defeat his former club in the play-offs the previous year.

McGhee commented: "I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Elliot for his outstanding contribution during his time with us.

"His impact on and off the pitch was exceptional and he played a pivotal role in our play-off success.

"A proven goalscorer throughout his career, Elliot consistently delivered when it mattered most.

"Last season marked his final campaign with the club as he now turns his focus to family life and the opportunity to be closer to home.

"While we are deeply disappointed to see him go, he leaves with our utmost respect and gratitude.

"We wish Elliot and his young family all the very best for the future."

McGhee remains in discussions with last season's squad plus new targets ahead of the coming campaign.

Although announcements won't be imminent, the Arrows boss was quick to reassure fans that there is a hive of activity behind the scenes at the JRL Brickwork Stadium.

He explained: "I have enjoyed a short break - although at times it never feels quite long enough but it is always a valuable opportunity for everyone involved in football to reset and recharge.

"Conversations with new player targets have, on the whole, been very positive and my aim is to retain the majority of the squad, though naturally some players will be moving on as that's part of the team's progression as well as the players' own journey.

"That said, I'm pleased that a strong percentage of the squad have committed to staying for another season.

"We won't be announcing anything player-wise until mid to late July as registrations aren't yet open and things can change quickly during this period.

"We don't want people to be concerned if we appear quiet compared to other clubs. A great deal is happening behind the scenes in terms of player discussions but it's important we conduct our business properly."

Harrowby will start their pre-season preparations with a home friendly against former manager Graham Drury who will be bringing his Stamford side to the JRL Brickwork Stadium on Saturday, July 5, for a noon kick-off.

The Arrows then host Dunkirk on Tuesday, July 8, before a home match against Southwell City on Saturday, July 12 (1pm).

A trip to Deeping Rangers for the South Kesteven Charity Cup final takes place on Wednesday, July 16, before a match at Bourne Town on Saturday, July 19.

The friendlies then conclude with a home match against Boston United Under 23s on Tuesday, July 22.
