Grantham & Melton Cricket Association round-up
Croxton Kerrial toppled league leaders Grantham in a top-versus-bottom clash in the Grantham and Melton Association on Sunday.
On a rain threatened afternoon, Grantham decided to bat first and the visitors began cautiously until a mix up in the middle, along with some superb work in the deep by Jamie Harrop, had Toby Cullen run out for 10, the only Grantham batsman to make double figures.
From that point, wickets fell regularly thanks in main to some superb bowling from youngsters Michael Shelford (4-18) and Joe Scott (4-11) and backed up brilliantly in the field as Grantham were eventually all out for 62 in the 24th over.
In reply, the home side began confidently with Harrop punishing anything slightly short or wide.
Despite some tight bowling by Mangineni, it was Harry Field who made the breakthrough, bowling Marsh with a delivery that skidded below his defences.
Harrop though continued to find the boundary and, along with a cameo from skipper David Scott (12) and a gutsy not out from Toby Stevenson (1no), hit the winning runs and finished with 39 not out to see the home side across the line in the 17th over.
Buckminster were beaten by nine wickets against Stamford Town in the same division.
Peter Morrall made 27 and Scott Floyd finished on 25 as Buckminster were bowled out for 87 after batting first.
Jake Wallace claimed the only Stamford wicket to fall, courtesy of a Ryan Lord catch, as the visitors raced to victory in 18 overs.
Belvoir's home match with Rothley Park in Division One was abandoned due to the weather shortly after the hosts had started their run chase.
Rothley made 175-6 in the 28-over match after batting first with Belvoir 36-1 in their reply when rain stopped play.
Belvoir had managed to play both of their games in the South Nottinghamshire League on Saturday.
The first team's Division A match at Ellerslie had finished with the honours even after the sides played out a draw.
Belvoir had made 237-7 from their 40 overs after batting first with Scott Nicholson (47), Lewis Dann (40), Tom Lindsay (45) and Joe Bottomley (46) their chief contributors.
Tom Neville then took 4-48 from eight overs in the Ellerslie reply while Dann also grabbed a couple of wickets.
However, the only final wicket proved elusive for Belvoir as Ellerslie saw out the 40 overs to close on 215-9.
Phil Irvine was in fine form with both bat and ball as Belvoir 2nds beat Midlands by four wickets in their Division G clash.
Irvine took 2-19 from a tidy six over spell as Midlands were restricted to 133-8 from their 32 overs with Isuru Vidanagamage and Marcus Thorpe-Codman both bagging braces as well.
Irvine then struck an unbeaten 46 to guide Belvoir to victory with nine balls to spare after opener Will Thornton had scored 31.
Grantham's clash in the Lincolnshire Premier League with Grimsby on Saturday was cancelled due to the wet weather.
The elements also dashed any hopes of play in the South Lincs League Border League as matches involving Grantham 2nds and 3rds as well as Ancaster were called off.
