Grantham Athletics Club compete in 27 events across the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Championships

The start of the track and field season has seen some difficult and unspectacular performances by Grantham Athletics Club which have been affected by inclement weather conditions.

Thankfully last weekend saw warm, sunny weather for promising athletics results and a summer-like experience in the county championships.

Eleven Grantham AC athletes competed in 27 events across the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Championships.

With six personal bests and six season bests performances, athletes ran, jumped and threw to achieve 21 medal equivalent positions (11 gold, six silver, four bronze) in what was an excellent set of results for so early in the season.

In the under 11s and under 13s races, two young athletes - Jivanraj Vijayaraj (80m) and Darcey Wood (100m, 150m) - won their respective sprint races.

In the under 20s, Sofia Danielle claimed two second place results in the 100m and long jump.

Christopher Bainbridge had a timely return to form to successfully defend all four of his championship titles across the throwing events.

In the masters category, Helen Gilbert picked up a gold, silver and bronze across her throwing events.

Philip Garner managed two second places in his four throwing events and Mark Atkin, in the Nottinghamshire Championships, won three gold medals in the high jump, long jump and javelin.
