Grantham Tennis Club's ladies first team have achieved a remarkable feat of a clean sweep of victories en-route to title glory.

They often faced teams that included Nottinghamshire county players which made the matches challenging and competitive.

Grantham themselves had been bolstered by some new players, both adults and juniors, and the weekly coaching sessions consisting of drills and doubles tactics with head coach Stuart Calow has certainly paid off in the matches.

Calow said: "It's almost unheard of to go through the season without losing a match in Division One as the competition is so strong.

"A huge well done to all the ladies who played this season, whether it be one match or all of them, and to all those who came to weekly training which has undoubtedly helped those who have represented the club in matches.

"They have also used the team chat to arrange extra practice and matches outside of this.

"It all helps to engender the team spirit, ensures new players get the right level of tennis for their ability and above all are warmly welcomed to the club."

Grantham clinched the title in the final match of the season against Magdala.

The team featured Sarah Wright, Laura Cooper, Lianne Firth, Natasha Scott, Cathy Fawcett and Zoe Pitcher.

They won 68-40 on rubbers to follow up earlier victories over West Bridgford firsts and seconds, Caunton, Nottingham Castle and Musters.

The squad this season has also included Sophie Dobson, Sarah Patton, Madison Cook, Kate Reader, Jo Goodberry, Fiona Beale, Samaira Bajaj and Rachel Brook

The strength in depth in the ladies is now highlighted by Grantham fielding three teams in the summer leagues (both national and county competitions) in order to give everyone more opportunity to play matches and improve.

More training is also planned outside of the Wednesday night session as well as an end of season celebration to toast the recent success.
