Grantham Running Club take part in the Rauceby Ripper event

Nine members of Grantham Running Club took part in the Rauceby Ripper event on Saturday.

Hosted by Sleaford Town Runners, the mixed terrain nine-mile race is very popular, selling out within three hours.

First across the line for GRC was Peter Bonner who credits this race as a firm favourite of his, finishing in 1:00:53 for fifth place overall.

Sam Jepson soon followed in seventh place in a time of 1:01:28. As a newbie to the event he found the course tough in places particularly with some of the inclines but has vowed to come back and attack it again next year.

Russel Whittaker had been looking forward to the event, however, he was blighted by a nasty bout of illness which meant he hung back to finish in eighth place, although still in an incredible time of 1:03.34.

Cross country enthusiasts Peter Jennings and Paul Davis made easy work of the course, finishing in 1:15:57 and 1:16:16 respectively.

Caroline Davis has plenty of experience with the Ripper and was the first lady for GRC to cross the finish line in 1:22:39 soon followed by returning runner Sarah High in 1:25:23.

Power couple Kate and Fraser Marshall took part for the first time, opting to treat it as a training run for their upcoming half marathons, completing it together in a time of 1:45:54.

It was great event which was well marshalled and organised.

The GRC contingent attending grows every year and the Ripper has become a race highly recommend by all who take part.
