Harrowby United beat Newark and Sherwood in the United Counties League
The landlords of Harrowby United got the better of their Newark and Sherwood tenants in Saturday's United Counties League clash.
The Arrows were 2-1 winners in the Premier Division North match against the Highwaymen who ground-share at the JRL Brickwork Stadium.
It was the third victory in the last four games for Jamie McGhee's side who are targeting a decent end of the season for a top 10 finish in their first campaign at step five of the non-league pyramid.
They were without suspended skipper Kemal Yeniberitz but Lord Marfo and Kegan Everington both returned to the starting line-up along with goalkeeper Alex Smith.
Newark began the game really well and dominated the first 20 minutes as the Arrows struggled to get out of their own half.
The visitors never really created anything to test Smith but did have two strong penalty appeals turned down.
A hand-ball shout against Scott Floyd was rejected along with the appeals when Tyler Dacres went over following an Everington challenge.
Dacre was booked for simulation and Harrowby were awarded a free-kick which incensed the visitors.
The game swung in Harrowby's favour 15 minutes before the break when Micah Jebbison was dismissed for violent conduct after challenging for a high ball with Kyle Reek.
Reek was yellow carded for his challenge but had to be replaced due to injury with Harvey Graves coming on as the opening half ended goalless.
With Harrowby now a man to the good, they started the second half on top but Newark always looked dangerous with Dacres seeing plenty of the ball.
And it was the visitors who broke the deadlock as the Arrows failed to clear a ball over the top and Dacres finished well to give 10-man Newark an unlikely lead.
Harrowby rang the changes with Zach Hill, Issa Gaye and David Kolapo all coming on as the Arrows looked to salvage something from the game.
As Newark started to tire, Harrowby's wide men began seeing more of the ball with Everington particularly dominant in the midfield.
Substitute Kolapo was to have a big say as the game entered the final 15 minutes.
After a free-kick by Jack Gurney, Kolapo's fine run ended with him equalising and Harrowby were now looking for the winner.
Kolapo then put in a great cross for Graves at the far post to score his second goal in as many games for Harrowby with seven minutes remaining.
The visitors had one final chance in injury-time to secure a share of the spoils but goalkeeper Smith made a fantastic save after coming off his line to stop Marley Fearon from scoring.
Harrowby now head into a midweek match tomorrow night (Tuesday) against Skegness Town having lost just one of their last six league games.
Due to continued issues with the floodlights at the JRL Brickwork Stadium, the fixture has been moved to Sleaford Town's Elsaforde Park ground (7.45pm).
