Sudbrook Moor Golf Club stage a Texas Scramble event

The Sudbrook Moor May Day weekend was celebrated with a popular favourite format - a Texas Scramble with a shot-gun start and the well liked 'pick your own team members.'

The all day long event involving 72 members was won with an excellent score of 51 points.

The team of Ian Barnes, Jeff Ward, Chris Shaw and Pedro Morais attributed their win to the memory of their best buddy and member, Dave Marshall, who died in March this year.

A Texas Scramble can be best explained as, after all have teed off on each hole, the team decides which drive is the best.

From there, all members of the team place their golf balls where the chosen drive ended up, with all members playing a second shot from this spot, and so it goes on, until the ball is in the hole.

There was a requirement that all players must use four drives minimum over the 18 holes.

One of the main appeals of a Texas Scramble is that golfers with new handicaps and little competition experience can join in without fear of embarrassment or of being a burden to other players.

Handicap allowances were calculated with percentages, from lowest to highest, of 25 percent, 20 percent, 15 percent and 10 percent.

The whole event was superbly organised by the club committee of Darren Nicholson, Barry Pogson and Steve Davis.
