Duathlete Sarah Terry from Long Bennington produces an excellent performance at the British Championships
Duathlete Sarah Terry excelled at the British Championships on Sunday - despite the worst possible preparation.
Terry was grateful to be on the start line at Oulton Park after spending four weeks recovering from Covid and a chest infection.
The Long Bennington woman still didn’t feel 100 per cent on race day but completed the sprint distance in 2hr11min38sec, placing her fourth in the 40-49 age category.
With the event also doubling up as a European qualifier, she made the provisional top three in the 50-54 age group.
Terry said: “Sometimes, it’s not about being in perfect condition.
It’s about showing up. I wanted to prove to myself that I had the grit and perseverance to give it everything I had, no matter the outcome.
“The conditions were brutal, heavy rain, wind, and cold temperatures made every moment a challenge.
“By the end, I was shaking uncontrollably, but I crossed that finish line proud and thankful.
“With a crash on the bike course, I was simply relieved to have made it around safely.”
