Grantham Town Under 18s beat West Bridgford Hornets in the Nottinghamshire Youth League

Grantham Town Under 18s produced a strong finish to run out 7-2 winners in their Nottinghamshire Youth League Division One match with West Bridgford Hornets.

The Gingerbreads shrugged off a slow start with the entire team stepping up in the final phase of the game.

The team had struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, failing to get out of first gear and showing signs of sluggish play.

This allowed the opposition to capitalise and score the opening goal.

Conceding seemed to spark some urgency into Grantham and, while the performance was still below the team's usual standards, they managed to go into half-time with a fair 2-1 lead after goals from Jayden and Kaden.

Starting the match in a 4-2-3-1 formation, adjustments were needed in the second half and the switch to a 3-5-2 came early to create an overload in midfield.

The formation change initially looked risky as the opponents scored to level the match at 2-2 which served as a wake-up call.

From that point forward, the team's passing, pressing and quick counter-attacks improved significantly.

The surge in energy and cohesive play led to five more goals being scored, showcasing their attacking potential, with Jayden (two), Joel S, Dan and Seth all on target.
