Grantham Town target success in the United Counties League Premier Division North, FA Vase, Lincolnshire Senior Trophy and Sports Ground Development Cup competitions

Grantham Town player-boss Mitch Griffiths is hoping a superb victory double will give his side momentum and consistency for a crucial spell of home games.

Seven of the Gingerbreads' next eight matches are at the Meres as they aim to continue their four-pronged attack for honours.

They are among the play-off places in the United Counties League Premier Division North and are also still involved in the FA Vase, Lincolnshire Senior Trophy and Sports Ground Development Cup competitions.

The quartet of competitions feature heavily in Grantham's forthcoming games as they are at home to Newark & Sherwood in the league on Saturday.

They then visit Retford on Tuesday night in the League Cup before hosting title rivals Sherwood Colliery next weekend (November 1).

A home league match with Blackstones (November 4) is then followed by the FA Vase tie at the Meres against Abbey Hulton (November 8) before Grantham entertain Appleby Frodingham in the county cup (November 15).

The flurry home games then finishes with league matches against Deeping Rangers (November 22) and Eastwood (November 29).

It is a vital spell of games for Grantham who are buoyed by back-to-back 1-0 victories over Newark and Sherwood and Boston Town in their last two outings.

Griffiths said: "The games are relentless at the minute and we've got Saturday and then Tuesday matches for the next few weeks.

"We've had three wins and just one loss in the last four games though and I've got to be happy with that return.

"The last couple of games have been really pleasing and there isn't much better than keeping clean sheets and winning games 1-0.

"We knew exactly what it was going to be going into both games.

"They were both local derbies against physical teams who both work hard.

"There are obviously a lot of connections to both teams so it was always going to be frantic games with fine margins.

"I felt we deserved to win both games and defensively it's probably the best we've been for a two game period which is really pleasing

"Hopefully the last two results will give us momentum and consistency."

A crowd of more than 500 watched Grantham in their last league match at home when they defeated Heanor Town.

And Griffiths feels there is a real sense of togetherness between his players and the Gingerbreads' faithful.

He added: "The crowd for the last league game was just crazy for this level.

"The fans have been huge for us so far this season and the amount of people that we take to away games is incredible and you can hear them the whole game.

"It really does give you that extra bit of adrenaline and energy which is what you need, especially in these tight games.

"The togetherness between the fans and the players is getting better every week and they want to see a side which is giving everything."

Grantham face a quick-fire return match with Newark and Sherwood on Saturday after last weekend's 1-0 away win in the FA Vase.

Both sides are very familiar to each other with the Highwaymen strengthening their ranks this week by signing former Grantham players Ryan Ebanks and Leke Shodunke for the second meeting between the two teams in seven days.

Griffiths added: "I don't think it makes too much difference playing the same team again so soon, especially with it being Newark.

"It will be familiar territory because we both knew everything about each other in the first game so it's kind of as if you've played them recently anyway.

"I think if it was somebody not as local as some and a team that we didn't know too much about then it would be a massive benefit playing them twice so soon because, in your second game, you obviously know what you're going into."

Brad Munns netted the winning goal in the FA Vase tie having returned to the club from Belper Town.

The midfielder is back with the Gingerbreads on a permanent basis after several spells higher up the non-league pyramid.
