Driving ban for Saracen’s Head motorist ‘slurring his words’ at Boston filling station
A man who was ‘unsteady on his feet’ and ‘slurring his words’ as he attempted to buy fuel has been handed a driving ban.
Saracen’s Head resident Jake Cable had filled up his van at a Boston service station on when a member of staff believed he could be over the drink-drive limit, a court was told.
“It was 10.30pm on October 11 when the defendant drove his Ford Transit onto the forecourt at the Applegreen station on Sleaford Road,” prosecutor Lottie Tyler said.
“The defendant parked up and began dispensing fuel.
“When he went up to the kiosk he was unsteady on his feet and slurring his words.”
Police were called and Cable, 33, gave a reading of 81 micrograms in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
Defending the 33-year-old, Michele Cheatle said her client decided to have an ‘impromptu drink with a friend’.
“He didn’t think he’d be over the limit,” she added.
Cable, of Roman Bank, pleaded guilty to drink driving at Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
He was banned from the roads for 20 months, which could be reduced by 20 weeks if he completes the drink driver rehabilitation course.
He was also fined £500 and ordered to pay a £200 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
