Lincolnshire Police reassure Holbeach after 16-year-old found guilty of attempted murder

Police have reassured parents and teenagers after a 16-year-old boy was convicted of attempted murder.

A jury took less than three hours to find the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, guilty of attempting to murder another 16-year-old boy in a Holbeach park in July last year. He was convicted on Monday last week.

The 16-year-old victim was found with wounds to his throat and chest by police who were called to a piece of land close to the William Stukeley Primary School during the early hours of July 28.

Det Con Erin Thornton, who was in charge of the case, has sought to reassure the town’s parents about the safety of their children following the conviction.

She said, “This was a tragic incident which involved individuals known to each other. We appreciate at the time that there were justifiable concerns expressed by other teenagers when going out in Holbeach.

“However, our investigation moved swiftly to apprehend an individual who was suspected of having carried out this attack which resulted in the verdict heard at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday, January 20.

“Our paramount priority at that time was to safeguard members of the public and to carry out a full and thorough investigation to seek justice for the victim of the assault.”
