Plan to convert Holbeach residential property into a supported living home for up to four young people has been given the all-clear
A plan to convert a residential property into a supported living home for up to four young people has been given the all-clear.
Applicant Mr D. John has been successful in obtaining a lawful development certificate - a legal document which confirms a specific use or development is lawful and does not require planning permission - for the proposed use of the swelling at 19 Langwith Drive in Holbeach.
The proposal also allows for up to two adults.
Mr John had previously applied to transform the property - a two-storey detached dwelling on a cul-de-sac - into a home for up to five children.
At that time, South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes and 12 members of the public raise concerns including anti-social behaviour, noise disturbance, the potential devaluing of neighbouring properties.
The planning committee at South Holland District Council discussed the request at April’s meeting, taking just two minutes to agree they should request the decision be deferred to clarify some unnamed issues.
This was made following discussions with the authority’s legal team.
However, the request has now been given the thumbs up by the authority’s planning department.
“According to the application form, the intention is to use to site as a home for four young people,” the planning officer’s report said.
“The application is also accompanied by a supporting statement, within which the applicant clarifies that they intend to live within the site to support and care for the young people.
“The applicant would not employ any staff, however, the applicant intends to live with their cousin who would assist with looking after the young people.
“The applicant clarified that their cousin is an adult.”
A supporting statement from Mr John said: “I will be personally caring for the young people with the support of my cousin, who will share the carers' bedroom with me.
“Together, we will ensure a warm, intimate atmosphere without the need for additional staff.
“We will share daily activities such as cooking and eating meals together, and I will personally assist the children with their routines, including school drop-offs and pick-ups."
