Welsh Guards to perform Army Benevolent Fund concert in Lincoln

A musical celebration of Lincolnshire’s heritage will take centre stage this October.

The Band of the Welsh Guards will perform at Lincoln Cathedral to raise funds for the Army Benevolent Fund.

The concert, which takes place on Friday, October 17, at 7.30pm, continues a 20-year tradition of performances by Household Division bands in either Lincoln Cathedral or St Wulfram’s Church, Grantham.

This year marks the event’s return to the cathedral after a two-year break.

The evening will hold particular significance for Major Matt Simons, director of music for the Welsh Guards, who was born and raised in Lincoln.

It will be his first time performing on a Lincoln stage in his career.

Major Simons joined the Army in 1999 as a trombonist and has served on operations in Iraq as well as leading training teams across the world.

In 2024, he took up his current post, conducting the band during Trooping the Colour.

The 90-minute concert, including an interval, will feature a programme celebrating Lincolnshire’s heritage, both historical and cultural.

Tickets are available online from £20.

Funds raised will support the Army Benevolent Fund, a national charity that last year assisted more than 70,000 people worldwide, including bereaved families, veterans adjusting to civilian life, and soldiers at risk of homelessness.
