Cast of Lincoln Snow White panto including Olympic gymnast Louis Smith switch on city’s Christmas lights
Lincoln has welcomed in the festive season with its annual Christmas lights switch-on.
On Thursday evening (November 28), thousands of residents gathered on the High Street for an event hosted by the City of Lincoln Council and BBC Radio Lincolnshire.
Just before the main event, the crowd enjoyed a performance from the cast of New Theatre Royal's production of Snow White, featuring Olympic gymnast and Strictly Come Dancing winner Louis Smith, along with TV personality and X-Factor finalist Amelia Lily.
Comedian Patrick Monahan, also part of the cast, added some humour to the evening, joking, "Who wants to win a date with Snow White?"
Mayor of Lincoln Councillor Alan Briggs then took to the stage to welcome the crowd, saying: "It is such a fantastic occasion for me as the 819th Mayor of our historic, wonderful city to welcome you all here tonight to this much-loved annual event.
"You’ve been entertained with some fantastic performances by some amazing performers—let’s give them all a big cheer."
With a quick countdown, Councillor Briggs then pressed the switch, illuminating the city's Christmas lights as Wizzard's I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day rang out through the speakers.
On Saturday, December 7, and Sunday, December 8, the city is set to be transformed into a "magical winter wonderland" as the City of Lincoln Council prepares to host its Lincoln Ice Adventure.
Inspired by last year’s Lincoln Ice Trail, the event will also feature Christmas carollers, a mulled wine stall, and a variety of festive activities.
